Bridge pupils celebrate Day of Education at the Nigerian Stock Exchange

In Nigeria, the first International Day of Education will be remembered by 50 of our Bridge Nigeria pupils as the day they took a tour of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). Here, they learned all about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), capital markets and talked to stockbrokers from Africa’s largest stock exchange about buying and selling on the markets

Following the declaration at the UN General Assembly last year that January 24 would be the International Day of Education, NSE organised an excursion programme for Bridge pupils, and other schools, to celebrate the occasion. This is in line with NSEs commitment to enhance cooperation and support efforts towards the realisation of the SDGs.

The day concluded with two Bridge pupils participating in the closing gong ceremony — an honour that’s previously been bestowed on Presidents, and many of the most influential and successful people from Nigeria, and beyond.

For Primary Six pupil, Bright Hassan from Bridge Academy, Demeke the visit increased his knowledge and exposure to the world of business. He said: “I learned about how smart financial decisions are made, and how these can build a better future.” Speaking about his participation in the closing gong ceremony, he added excitedly: “I felt on top of the world when I was ringing the bell! I’ll tell all my friends about what an amazing day we’ve had.”
