Simon Ibitoye

Meet Simon Ibitoye, a teacher from Lagos, Lagos. Simon teaches at Bridge, Magbon where he has massively improved his teaching, with lots of support.

Simon teaches Primary 2. “For me, the most important thing is to use pupil-centred teaching techniques. This helps to engage pupils in the lessons. Other schools seem to instead use teacher-centred learning,” he says.

Simon says that he has learnt a wide range of techniques since joining Bridge. He says, “The main thing I learnt at teacher training was to ‘check and respond’ to pupils. This helps me to understand which pupils in my classrooms might be struggling, so I can help them.”

Most importantly, Simon believes that he’s a better teacher now due to training. “I used to lecture, now I engage!” he concludes.
